As the association announced in a press release, the youth teams will be coached next season. Former U18 national coach Marcel Jenni (49) is promoted to U20 national coach. Patrick Schöb (36), the current U17 coach, moves up to the U18 level.
The reason for these changes: Marco Bayer, head coach of the U20 national team, leaves his post and moves to the GCK Lions as coach, replacing Michael Liniger, who in turn moves to Zug as one of champion maker Dan’s new assistants Tangnes.
“We respect Marco Bayer’s wish to seize the opportunity in the Swiss league with this offer and have therefore agreed to an early termination of the contract,” explained national coach Lars Weibel.
The advantage of this castling is that both Jenni and Schöb can continue to work with their current team and continue the processes that have been initiated. “With this solution we continue on the path of sustainability, forming a rotation system at U17 and U18 level and thus promoting our own coaches,” says Weibel, “it also corresponds to our philosophy of working together wherever possible with the leagues and clubs and so more Swiss coaches are integrating into the system.”
Patrick Hager, sports director of the GCK Lions, said in a statement from Zurich about Bayer’s commitment: “Because of Marco’s previous coaching positions, he is used to working with both young and experienced players. I am convinced that as a Swiss solution we will be successful with this. to continue on the path we are on.” The 50-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the ZSC Lions farm team.
