The parents of the 1.5-year-old girl invited only their closest friends to the ceremony. Invitations to the baptism were sent to British relatives of the disgraced dukes – Prince William, Kate Middleton, King Charles III. and Queen Consort Camille. However, they refused to fly to the US and so did not attend the event.
About 20 guests attended the ceremony, which took place at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s home in Montecito. Among them was the girl’s maternal grandmother, Doria Ragland. The Dukes of Sussex have a warm relationship with the pensioner, she helps them raise their children – son Archie and daughter Lilibet.
The godfather of the girl was the actor and director Tyler Perry, he flew from Atlanta together with a gospel choir of 10 people. The godmother’s name is not given.
An official representative of the Dukes of Sussex made the statement. “I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was baptized on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Most Reverend John Taylor,” he told People.
American journalists caught the dukes in a lie. The Archbishop of Los Angeles is José H. Gomez. He is a Catholic bishop and did not baptize Lilibet. John Taylor is a bishop serving in the Diocese of Los Angeles. When the press approached the Sussexes for an explanation, their spokesman pointed out that Lilibet was baptized by an Anglican bishop and that it was not a Catholic baptism.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry broke several important rules with this event. In the royal family, it is customary to baptize babies at a very early age – usually before six months. The heirs of Kate Middleton and Prince William attended the ceremony very young: George and Louis were three months old, Charlotte two.
In addition, the sacrament is considered a very important procedure, it is carried out in the format of traditional royal events. At Lilibet’s christening, the guests drank, ate heartily and danced.
