Will he remain Biel’s coach?: Steinegger in a dilemma

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

1/7
Strong behind the gang: Biel’s interim coach Martin Steinegger.

For the first time since 1985

For champions Geneva, the play-ins showed that the season could end with a draw in the race for the title. This was last possible in the 1984/1985 season, when HC Davos was awarded the bucket after a total of 38 games (including the main and championship rounds). Then the wheel and the play-offs were invented and whoever was eliminated did so with a defeat.

The play-in format apparently raises questions among some consumers. It is anyone’s guess how well those directly involved are aware of the rules. However, the change brought about by the draw is remarkable: after the crazy 4:4 in the derby on Thursday, we first had to realize that it could not continue here and now. Just over, without a winner or loser (even though the draw felt like a failure for Ambri). Should the National League consider returning the tie? This would give more weight to the three-point win in the regular season and further raise the profile of the play-offs with their own rules.

Will Steinegger continue this way?

EHC Biel is directly responsible for the premature end of the season for the champion and goes to the next round with a 2-2 draw. In Zealand people are now wondering whether sports director Martin Steinegger (52), promoted to interim coach, could also be a permanent solution behind the team bench. The man with the slightly wild haircut has not played a match without winning a point since taking office, which equates to five matches, three wins, one draw and one defeat on penalties.

Above all, Steinegger provided a significant correction. The club must now find out whether this is mainly due to the coaching change effect – or whether Steinegger is actually the best solution. If EHC Biel loses to Ambri in the second part of the play-ins, the question would probably be answered. But if “Stoney” reaches the playoffs with Biel, things will become more complicated. Would he then perform this job in a dual mandate and put himself in a situation where he would have to fire himself? Or do you fully trust coach Steinegger and say goodbye to sports director Steinegger?

I hope for more help from Zurich

With Kloten and Ajoie you can still hope that the fear of the play-out final (which would start on March 16) will soon disappear into thin air. Since the last sweepstakes matches on March 4, people in the Zurich Unterland and Jura have been rooting for the GCK Lions to take on EHC Olten, the only remaining Swiss league team with a license for promotion. As if the ZSC Lions organization had not already provided its derby opponent with enough help with three defeats in four games in the regular competition. In the future, the National League could allay fears of relegation with simpler means than an unlikely format: in principle, licenses for promotion will no longer be granted. File and competition closed.
