Viorel Moldovan (51)

The Romanian became top scorer twice (1996 with Xamax and 1997 with GC), but he became known to a wider audience through the fraud case of a candidate in the TV quiz ‘Risk’. Keyword: “That is the Moldovan footballer.” Nowadays he works in his home country as an expert for “Orange Sport”. He last worked as a coach until 2021.

Richard Nunez (48)

To this day, Ranked fans rave about the Uruguayan magic mouse; the lively winger was top scorer in 2002 and 2003. After his successful time in Switzerland, he continued to play for another ten years and only finally retired in 2015. Today he lives with his family in Canelones. His 17-year-old daughter also plays football passionately.

Charles Amoah (49)

The Ghanaian had his finest hour in the 1999/00 season. With 26 goals he shot St. Gallen to the title and himself as top scorer. In the next one “Charlie” had an equally dangerous start. This earned him a transfer to the then very rich Sturm Graz in the winter of 2001. From that moment on, things went downhill sportingly for Amoah. He never reached double-digit goals again. In 2007 he ended his career after several injuries.

Ivan Zamorano (56)

The Chilean started his world career in St. Gallen in 1988. His 23 goals in his second season in eastern Switzerland earned him a move to Seville in the summer of 1990. Another two years later he moved to the great Real Madrid, where he became top scorer with 28 goals and became Spanish champion. He later won the UEFA Cup with Inter. He ended his career in his hometown of Colo-Colo in 2003.

Christian Gimenez (49)

After 115 goals in 165 games, ‘Jimmy’ left FCB in a hurry for Marseille in August 2005. However, the Argentinian was not really happy there and moved on to the Bundesliga. He scored 15 goals for Hertha BSC in the 2006/2007 season. He returned to Switzerland via Mexico and Greece. Giménez ended his career in 2009 with Challenge League club Locarno. Nowadays he works as a player’s agent.

Seydou Doumbia (36)

The Ivorian won the crown three times: twice for YB and once for FCB. In between he played for CSKA Moscow, AS Roma and Newcastle, then for Sporting and Girona. He returned to Switzerland in 2019, but was fired from FC Sion without notice during the corona pandemic. After an intermezzo with the Maltese champions Hamrun Spartans, 2021 was over.

John Eriksen (1957-2002)

The Dane joined Servette in 1986 and is considered one of the best penalty area attackers Switzerland has ever seen. With Geneva he became top scorer twice, in his second season he scored 36 times, including 20 times in 14 games in the final round. After three years in Geneva, he played two more seasons in Lucerne before returning to his homeland. The World Cup and European Championship participant suffered from Alzheimer’s disease after his career and died in 2002 at the age of 44.

Shabani Nonda (47)

In 1995, the striker from Burundi came to Zurich, where coach Raimondo Ponte personally received him at home. Nonda repaid the trust with goals; At the age of 24, he became top scorer in the 1997/98 season, after which the FCZ transferred him to Rennes for six million francs. Nonda later played for Monaco, AS Roma, Blackburn and Galatasaray, among others. Today, Nonda commutes between his home country Burundi and France.

Giovane Elber (51)

Elber came to AC Milan as a teenager but couldn’t make it there so he was loaned out to GC. The Brazilian flourished under Christian Gross, becoming top scorer once before moving to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. He experienced his best time at Bayern from Munich, with whom he became champion four times and won the Champions League in 2001. In 2003 he also became Germany’s top scorer. Today Elber is an ambassador for Bayern Munich.
