Desert test starts with background noise: The case surrounding Red Bull team boss Horner becomes a power struggle

What happens behind the scenes? Speculation swirls every day. An external investigation into alleged sexually offensive cell phone messages sent to a woman at the company has so far yielded no results.

Majority shareholder of Horner

Why hasn’t the woman spoken out publicly yet? What is kept secret? Formula 1, the FIA, GP owner Liberty Media and Red Bull’s future partner Ford are waiting for a decision. Misogynistic actions are no longer a taboo subject in the GP circus.

Bullen’s headquarters in Salzburg are silent. The Austrians appear to be at odds with the majority shareholder (Yoovidhya family, 51 percent) in Thailand. The Bangkok clan has supported Horner for years when it comes to power in the team. Even now?

Binotto, Coulthard, Wheatley?

Who will prevail as the evidence becomes increasingly overwhelming? There is already speculation about the successor. Binotto (ex Ferrari), Szafnauer (ex Alpine) and Coulthard (ex driver and Red Bull ambassador).

The favorite would be current sporting director Jonathan Wheatley. On Tuesday, Blick saw the Brit talking to his old friend Beat Zehnder (Hinwil’s sporting director) at the Bulls. Many years ago, 58-year-old Zehnder from Zurich received an offer from the Bulls, but turned it down out of loyalty to Peter Sauber.

Bahrain – a vision of Ecclestone

From Wednesday, the pilots will set the tone on the desert circuit three times for nine hours and thirty minutes. The new winter test area in Bahrain (which replaced Barcelona a few years ago) celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year.

The Gulf State as a Formula 1 location was a vision of former GP boss Bernie Ecclestone (93). He was the first to realize where the journey was going. Singapore (2008), Abu Dhabi (2009) and Baku (2016) followed.

Ecclestone also brought Hungary into the show in 1986 (then behind the Iron Curtain) – today a classic. And in 1993, he made politics stay political and helped South Africa make a comeback. Unfortunately, they only benefited from this for a short time.
