In October 2023, French Interior Minister Gérard Darmanin claimed that star striker Karim Benzema had links to the Muslim Brotherhood. As Info RTL and ‘Le Parisien’ report, Benzema’s lawyer Hugues Vigier filed a complaint with the ‘Cour de Justice de la République’ on Tuesday. He has the right to prosecute and, if necessary, convict members of the government. Content of the lawsuit: defamation.
In the complaint, Benzema again stated that he distanced himself from any connection with the Muslim Brotherhood and that the accusations damaged his reputation and honor. Vigier explains that his client has become a “victim of political instrumentalization”.
The reason for Darmanin’s accusations was an Instagram post by Benzema in which he assured the people of Palestine of his support: “All our prayers go out to the people of Gaza, who are once again victims of unjust bombings that target neither women nor children save. »
On a sporting level, it has not been quiet around Karim Benzema lately. The 36-year-old was recently removed from the selection by his current club Al-Ittihad and was not allowed to attend the training camp. (ch)
