An era is coming to an end at Borussia Dortmund: general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke (64) will retire in 2025. Watzke has been BVB boss since 2005 and before that he was responsible for the club’s finances for four years.
Dortmund wrote in a statement: “Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA, has chaired the Presidential Committee of the Advisory Board of Borussia Dortmund Unternehmensführungs-GmbH under the chairmanship of President Dr. Reinhold Lunow has learned that he will no longer renew his employment contract as director, which currently runs until the end of 2025, and will resign from the board in the fall of 2025.
It is unclear whether Watzke will take a new position at Zwart-Geel. He is currently vice president of the German Football Association, member of the supervisory board of the German Football League and delegate to UEFA. (cmu)
