The flight takes too long: Djokovic cancels the tournament from his season schedule

Novak Djokovic withdraws from the first round of Davis Cup qualifying.

Novak Djokovic (36) has failed to start the new tennis season. At the first tournament of the year, the United Cup in Perth, he finished in the quarter-finals.

He failed because of the number twelve in the world, Alex de Minaur (24). Apparently, to make matters worse, he suffered an injury to his right wrist. And this is nine days before the Australian Open (January 14 to 28), where the Serbian is aiming for his eleventh title.

Rest in early February

Not an easy task for Djokovic. In any case, he has a stressful two weeks ahead of him, assuming he makes it to the finals. He knows that too and that is why the Serbian has now deleted a tournament from his season schedule.

Namely the first round of Davis Cup qualifying on February 2 against Slovakia. In concrete terms, he explains his decision not to make such a long flight from Australia to Serbia at short notice and also to play on sand. Djokovic may also be making sure he keeps his energy levels up as much as possible throughout the season. (Gentlemen)
