Wine cellars are designed to provide as neutral a scent as possible, without affecting the aroma of the wines. Pets such as cats or dogs can leave behind unpleasant odors, for example from their feces or natural body odor. A drenched dog is no more at home in a wine cellar than a cat searching the litter box.

Many cats like to extensively explore places that were previously hidden from them. A wine rack with wooden boxes and bottles spread over several floors will delight any cat’s heart. It’s silly for nimble four-legged friends to stumble upon a loose wine bottle and move it. In the worst case scenario, the bottle falls off the wine rack and breaks when it falls.

Does your cat occasionally bring you gifts in the form of dead birds or mice? Then you may know that cats sometimes prefer to hide their prey somewhere in the house rather than eating it. When accessing the wine cellar, there is a risk that such a hiding place may be found somewhere behind the wine chest. This can cause unpleasant odors and attract other animals, such as corpse-eating insects or ants.

Cats like to sleep for 16 hours a day, sometimes even longer. A quiet, sheltered spot behind the wine crate can be an ideal place to sleep. It’s so stupid that the door is locked when you leave the wine cellar. Later, the wine cellar turns into a pitch-dark prison for the cat. Of course, this danger also exists for other pets.
