The Swiss national women’s team won the final group match against Latvia 22-1 at the Floorball World Championships in Singapore and thus celebrated a record victory.
The question of who will be the winner will be answered no later than nine and a half minutes into the unequal match. At the moment, the Swiss are already 5-0 ahead, although Isabelle Gerig (24), top scorer of the match with five goals and four assists, has not yet started scoring goals.
Thanks to two goals in the last ten seconds, the biggest World Cup victory for a Swiss national women’s team was ultimately achieved. The previous record, a 21-1 win against Russia in St. Gallen, dates back to December 2011.
The team of national coach Oscar Lundin (35) will continue on Friday as group winners behind Finland with the quarter-finals against an opponent that has not yet been determined and who must qualify through a round of 16. The mandatory victory expected there will most likely be followed by the match against defending champions and top favorites Sweden. (che/SDA)
