There will be a fuss about Peter Zeidler on Wednesday. The German is missing from FC St. Gallen’s training – due to illness, the club announced. In the meantime, his car was reportedly spotted in Augsburg. The FCA with the Swiss Kevin Mbabu and Ruben Vargas has been looking for a new coach since the dismissal of Enrico Maassen.
Zeidler laughed when Blick asked him about it Thursday. «I was not in Augsburg. I was really sick – the first time in five and a half years that I have been in St. Gallen.” The 61-year-old is in a good mood and he and sports director Alain Sutter also exchange ideas for a longer period of time with national coach Murat Yakin and Pierluigi Tami, as the national team trains at the Gründermoos sports facility immediately after the FCSG.
But what’s going on between Zeidler and Augsburg? Zeidler evades, but does not deny, that they know each other. After all, he was already an issue at the Bundesliga club a year and a half ago before Maassen secured the contract with FCA. And of course Zeidler knows Augsburg sports director Jure Jurendic and Heinz Moser, who left the FCZ for Augsburg this summer, from Switzerland.
“The Bundesliga is not my goal in life,” says Zeidler. There are other things in life. “I feel very comfortable in St. Gallen.” He cannot and does not want to say more. His contract with St. Gallen runs until 2027. It is unlikely that the Augsburg issue will be completely resolved.
