Hopes for an early end to the strike by Hollywood actresses and actors have been severely dampened: The major studios such as Disney and Netflix announced on Wednesday evening that negotiations to end the labor dispute have been broken off and suspended for the time being. This means that filming in the American movie world will remain on hold indefinitely.
“After serious discussions, it became clear that the gap between the positions of both parties is too wide,” explains trade association AMPTP. “The negotiations are not bringing us any noticeable progress.” The major studios organized in the association accused the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA of setting too high demands. This requires, among other things, a redistribution of revenue from streaming platforms, which “would cost the industry alone more than $800 million per year.”
SAG-AFTRA represents the interests of approximately 160,000 actors, stunt people, dancers and other artists in the film industry. It called on its members to go on strike in July. Initially there was no response from her. (saw/sda/afp)
