With Tanja Hüberli/Nina Brunner and Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré, two Swiss duos are in the eighth finals of the Beach Volleyball World Cup in Mexico.

The nominally strongest Swiss duo Tanja Hüberli (31) and Nina Brunner (27) confidently won against Poland’s Jagoda Gruszczynska/Aleksandra Wachowicz on Thursday evening. At 21:16 and 21:14 the Swiss only had a hard time in the first set, when they were sometimes four points behind. Hüberli/Brunner dominate the second set from the start.

Hard-fought victory for Böbner/Vergé-Dépré

The match between Esmée Böbner (23) and Zoé Vergé-Dépré (25) is more competitive. The number 17 seeded duo beat France’s Lezana Placette/Alexia Richard with 26:24, 21:16. In the first round, the Swiss had to fend off three set points before Esmée Böbner took the decision with an ace. From the middle of the second set, the Swiss took command and secured the victory.

In the round of 16, Böbner/Vergé-Dépré will meet No. 4 seeded Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes/Brandie Wilkerson on Thursday evening. Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner will face the duo Julia Scoles/Betsi Flint from the US, number 15 in the tournament.
