Serious mistake by KI: Norwegian newspaper reports Haaland’s death

Erling Haaland (23) is the great superstar of Manchester City and the best footballer in Norway. In his home country, the newspaper ‘Verdens Gang’ caused a real shock among its readers on Monday when it suddenly reported the death of the super striker.

The newspaper wrote about a photo shoot of the footballer: “The photographer David Yarrow took unique photos of footballer Erling Braut Haaland, who was shot on the property of billionaire Arne Fredly in Lysaker.” The false report was quickly corrected, but immediately circulated, causing ridicule and malice on the Internet.

Sports director apologizes

The reason for the faux pas is artificial intelligence; the newspaper has been using AI for its articles for months. Here the technology seems to have misinterpreted the word ‘shoot’.

An apology followed immediately. Frode Buanes, the newspaper’s sports director, wrote in a text message to “Dagbladet”: “I just have to apologize to Erling Braut Haaland. Although Haaland wets and shoots the opposition defense almost every week in England, there was no intention to kill him in print.” He also promised that such a mistake would not happen again in the future.

But the photo shoot with photographer David Yarrow took place. Spectacular photos were taken of Haaland in the water in a Viking look. The results can be seen on the photographer’s Instagram account.

“It wasn’t the hardest decision to play with the Viking theme, as there is hardly any other athlete in the world who could wear this look more naturally,” Yarrow wrote of the photos.
