In May it was announced that the new coach of FC Aarau Women is called Raimondo Ponte (68): 34-time national player, classification legend, savior of Sion, still the coach with the second longest tenure in the National League A (1995- 2000). at FCZ).

The club officials were happy that they wanted to attract attention with the well-known name. Probably something like the club name: the FCA women are officially called “Red Boots Aarau”.

Nevertheless, the answer to the most important question, namely whether Raimondo Ponte and women’s football fit together at all? It seems to be being generously ignored by those in charge. Because it’s as clear as the amen in church: it doesn’t work.

And Ponte? He seems happy with the additional employment. “I can’t sit at home and wait for the day to pass,” he told the NZZ-Folio.

Ponte and Red Boots parted peacefully

Nearly five months later, the parties noticed. Stumbling with the red boots. After last weekend’s 0-7 defeat in Bern, the third defeat in the third league match, Ponte offered his resignation to president Willy Wenger.

There are no voices that want to convince him to stay, as Ponte tells Blick. Nevertheless, they parted in peace: “I got along well with those responsible.”

The poor sports record is not even the main reason for the separation, even if it is explainable: with Servette and the FCZ, Aarau played against the best women’s teams in the country in the early stages of the season.

In fact, Ponte could not cope with the rudimentary conditions in the long run. He told the NZZ-Folio that at the start of his time with the FCA women, he took the training clothes home to wash. Out of pity for the players who otherwise would have had to do it themselves.

“The conditions are not NLA-ready”

The fact that he published the episode in the media did not go down well with those responsible for the FCA women. Anyone who knows Ponte knows: it is entirely possible that he was too demanding.

He does not want to give more details. Ponte only says: “The conditions are not suitable for the Super League. But there are talented players on the team, especially 16-year-old Lorena Barth. I hope a big step forward will be taken regarding the European Championships in Switzerland.”

After his brief involvement in women’s football, he says: “I am very impressed by the commitment the women show. I wish them all the best for the future!”
