Day-trippers to Austria finally have the opportunity to buy “pickles” for a day.

Anyone traveling to Austria by car needs a so-called “Pickerl”, that is, a vignette, at the latest when driving on the motorway. These were available for different lengths of stay. The annoying thing for day trippers was that the shortest vignette validity period was ten days.

Starting next year, Austria will change the rules and prices of Pickerl and finally introduce the new version of the long-awaited daily vignette.

The daily skit will be available for 8.60 euros. According to the current exchange rate, it costs around 8.30 francs. However, it is not much cheaper than the ten-day voucher previously used by Swiss tourers.

Ten-day vignettes are getting more expensive

There will be a slight adjustment for the latter: from the previous 9.90 euros to the new 11.50 euros (11 francs). Anyone staying on holiday for a week in Austria will pay a little more. But it is not worth buying a two-day vignette for the outward and return journey. In other words: the ten-day vignette only makes more sense for two-day stays. Day-trip tourists have to pay a relatively high price.

The price of the two-month vignette decreased slightly from 29 euros to 28.90 euros. The annual vignette price remained unchanged at 96.40 euros.

Meanwhile, there are already digital stories in Austria. These will not be introduced in Switzerland until 2024.
