Sepp Kuss is about to triumph in the Vuelta. The American was no longer attacked by his prominent teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic on the penultimate hill stage.

The stage was won by the Dutchman Wout Poels, who surprisingly had the upper hand over Remco Evenepoel in a sprint in a group of five. The 35-year-old Poels won a stage in the Tour de France for the first time this year. Now the winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège 2016 celebrated for the first time in the Vuelta.
