Atalanta Bergamo had a difficult evening against Sassuolo in Serie A, but still won 2-1 at home and can therefore call themselves leaders for at least one day. Juventus won the city derby against Turin 1-0.

Before half-time Atalanta struggled against Sassuolo. Without the suspended Hans Hateboer, but with Marten de Roon and Teun Koopmeiners, the home side saw Georgios Kyriakopoulos volley Sassuolo ahead.

A little later, Mario Pasalic equalized again. As soon as the second half had started, Ademola Lookman suddenly turned the game around with a nice shot.

Atalanta were then pushed back by the visiting side, who posed a few threats for keeper Marco Sportiello. With the many counterattacks just before the end, Atalanta did nothing.

Vlahovic against Schuurs

On the previous Saturday, Juventus beat fellow countryman Torino 1-0 with a goal from Dusan Vlahovic.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri has come under criticism in recent weeks following Juventus’ poor start to the competition and devastating 2-0 defeat by Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League. However, the management of the Turin club still have faith in the Italian manager.

Juventus were stronger than Torino, who were kept afloat for a long time by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. The goalkeeper responded brilliantly to attempts from Vlahovic, Manuel Locatelli and Moise Kean before half-time. In the early stages of the second half, he tapped a shot from Locatelli over the goal.

Perr Schuurs played the entire game for Torino and was tasked with controlling Vlahovic. He managed to do so for a long time, but in the 74th minute the Serbian striker slipped past the Torino defense after Danilo headed in a corner.

Juventus climbed to a provisional seventh place in Serie A with the win. Leaders Atalanta have eight points more. Napoli have seven points more than Juve and will take first place from Atalanta if they beat Bologna on Sunday.
