After two defeats, Phillip Cocu, successor to coach Thomas Letsch, who left for VfL Bochum at the end of last month, has his first points at Vitesse. The 2-0 win at SC Cambuur immediately lifted the Arnhem side from bottom of the Eredivisie table.

There, FC Emmen and FC Volendam, who balanced each other out on Friday evening, are now brotherly again.

Vitesse had the upper hand before half-time and after missed chances by Gabriel Vidovic and Bartosz Bialek, Ryan Flamingo scored from a Maximilian Wittek free-kick to make it 0-1.

Punctually at half-time, the 2-0 seemed imminent when Vidovic first tricked Doke Schmidt with a beautiful move down the back line and was then brought down by Jamie Jacobs. The VAR ruled to relieve the Frisians just before the penalty area, and so a penalty was dispensed with.

The second Arnhem goal followed after the break and was also very nice: Kacper Kozlowski captured the ball in his own half and scored coolly after a long rush. Sondre Tronstad added another penny with a point-blank powder. Cambuur was spared worse: Matus Bero hit the post shortly before the end.
