In the spring of 2022, Boris Becker (here with his partner Lilian de Carvalho) was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. In bankruptcy proceedings, he hid assets worth millions.

The disgraced Boris Becker (55) still manages to comment on his favorite tournament Wimbledon. For Sky Italia, the tennis icon was the surprise guest at the quarter-finals on Wednesday and commented on the matches in English. And it should not stop there. Becker will also comment and analyze the men’s final on Sunday.

Boris Becker and Wimbledon, that’s an intimate relationship. As a 17-year-old he celebrated his first triumph in London in 1985, followed by two more victories. After his career, he remained closely associated with the Grand Slam tournament. Since 2002 he has commented on games for the British BBC. Becker’s reviews were well received by critics and sports experts.

But then Becker was sidelined. In bankruptcy proceedings against him, he withheld millions in assets – and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by an English court in 2022. The BBC said goodbye to their old co-commentator. Although Becker was released from prison early after seven and a half months, the BBC decided not to work with him that year.

Because according to British law, the ex-tennis star can only re-enter England once the entire term of the prison sentence has expired. That will not be the case until October 2024. The BBC was not interested in a video collaboration. It remains unclear whether Becker will ever work for the British radio station again. He follows the Wimbledon matches from his new hometown of Milan.

What’s next for Becker?

Now the youngest male Wimbledon winner in history comes to kiss the hand in Italy. He is very happy with his job at Sky Italia, Becker said in a short joint Instagram post.

And Becker can still be seen and heard on German television. For Eurosport he analyzed all the matches of the Australian and French Open. The German sports channel also wants to call on Becker for the US Open, on the condition that Eurosport acquires the rights to the US Grand Slam. After that, the tennis legend’s contract with the broadcaster expires. It is still unclear how Becker’s career as a commentator will continue after that.
