‘Had sex with 10,000 women’: Manchester City player back in court

The trials of Benjamin Mendy (28) are being extended. After six rape allegations against the 28-year-old Manchester City defender were dropped in January, two women have now taken their rape allegations further. The Frenchman has been back in court since Monday. And as with previous hearings, the details are again ugly.

The first woman says she had a friendly relationship with a friend of Mendy’s, but the Frenchman whispered from behind in a bat in her ear that he would “kidnap her if he wasn’t looking”. Another evening she was in the shower with Mendy – and his friends – when the 2018 world champion suddenly showed up in the door, excited and in his underwear. She tried to get dressed, but the professional football player wouldn’t let go and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Somehow she managed to free herself and leave the room.

Contract expires at the end of June

The second woman accuses Mendy of rape. They met in a bar and then went to Mendy’s house with friends. In the evening, she followed the footballer to his bedroom, where the doors automatically locked. The Frenchman asked her to undress, otherwise she would not get her mobile phone back. «I want to see your body, you have such beautiful breasts. Show me your breasts,” Mendy is said to have said. After she said no to his demands, he replied that she shouldn’t be so shy: “I’ve had sex with 10,000 women,” after which he raped her.

Mendy’s contract with City expires at the end of June and will not be extended. After the first allegations became public, the club immediately suspended him. The Frenchman played his last game in August 2021. Although he has so far denied all allegations against him, his career is probably over. He faces a long prison sentence if found guilty. (nsa)
