Chickens have become a popular pet for many. In addition, they regularly deliver fresh eggs. There are an estimated 70,000 private chicken farms in Switzerland – and the number is constantly growing.

The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (BLV) and the Swiss Animal Protection Service (STS) are therefore jointly launching a national information campaign for species-specific chicken farming. Particular attention is paid to animal welfare, but also to the containment of animal diseases such as bird flu.
