Federal Council asks CHF 7 million for energy saving campaign

class=”sc-97fd9fa8-0 jNFKxv”>

The energy supply in Switzerland and Europe will remain tense in the coming winter.

Saving energy is serious business. Bottlenecks are also looming next winter and the cabinet wants to provide incentives again so that the population saves where they can.

The energy supply situation in Switzerland and Europe remains tense and is likely to become even more challenging than before in the winter of 2023/24, the state government wrote in its December decision. Now the Bundesrat has determined the budget planning.

Thanks for the mild winter

For 2022, 14 million francs have been budgeted for the savings initiative. Of this, CHF 11.2 million was used as activities slowed somewhat due to the mild first half of the winter.

The federal government’s energy dashboard currently shows consumption drops of 2 to 7 percent for electricity and 20 to 30 percent for gas. The temperature corrected values are available from May 2023.

Measures that are easy to implement

The energy saving initiative was launched by the Federal Council last August. It consists of the non-waste.ch energy saving campaign and the Energy Saving Alliance, which today has more than 380 members, including all cantons, and more than a hundred trade and business associations.

According to the Federal Council, the initiative shows how the population, the business community and the government can save energy with easy-to-implement measures to reduce the risk of a power shortage. (SDA)
