The construction of the second Gotthard tube is in full swing. A second parallel route tunnel should be built by 2029, which will allow the renovation of the first Gotthard tube. In addition to tons of rock, military installations also stand in the way of the new tunnel.
As the “Tagesanzeiger” writes, the Swiss military facilities in the Gotthard must now be rebuilt. In addition, preparatory work is needed to first move the military entrances. Astra pays for all the work
It is also unclear how much more expensive the construction will be if the bunkers are modified. All that is known is that the Federal Road Administration pays all costs for the second Gotthard tunnel. A total of CHF 2.14 billion is currently earmarked for construction.
