How General Motors secretly makes a lot of money from Tesla
The American car giant General Motors has a new revenue model. According to the parent company of Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, it has already repaired 11,000 Tesla. Why? Tesla’s customer service isn’t the best and customers are turning to other companies for maintenance and repairs.
GM boss Mark Reuss presented the new business in New York in conversation with investors and analysts. “It’s a growing revenue stream for us,” he said. “A new source of income, I would say.”
Tesla customer service is not the best
Tesla does not have a dealer network, but has a limited number of service centers. The internet is full of horror stories about Tesla customer service. Customers have to wait a long time, communication is poor, and problems are not always solved.
Customers switch to General Motors
It is only logical that Tesla drivers switch to other companies. General Motors has a huge dealer network in America, so that’s where they go.
Incidentally, Mark Reuss did not go into the details. We can imagine that GM dealers can’t do all repairs on a Tesla. It’s also not known if all 11,000 cars he spoke of are already out of Tesla warranty.
The dealerless approach is working less and less well
When Tesla was a relatively small brand, the American electric brand’s dealerless approach may have worked. But in recent years, Elon Musk’s company has sold more than 3 million cars. Then maintenance and repairs must be announced.
