Explosives caused Nord Stream explosions

The leaks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines can be traced back to serious sabotage. This is the conclusion of the Swedish public prosecutor’s office after investigating the explosion sites in the Baltic Sea.

Analyzes showed traces of explosives on several discovered foreign bodies, prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist, who was entrusted with the preliminary investigation, said Friday. Advanced work and analysis would continue to draw stronger conclusions about the incident.

Who is behind the sabotage?

It is not yet clear who is behind the sabotage. The “world” writes that satellite images show how two ships were at the exact locations of the leaks just before the explosions. The Automatic Identification System (AIS) was disabled on both ships. This has been a strict regulation for ships of this size since 2004.

At the end of September, after explosions near the Baltic Sea island of Bornholm, a total of four leaks were discovered in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, two of them in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden. Days after the leaks were discovered, the blasts were suspected to be deliberate. Russia denies responsibility for the sabotage. (SDA)
