How much free time does a member of the state government have and how often do our federal councilors hike in the Alps?
Since it was announced that the federal government would purchase a GA for the Swiss cable cars for the sitting Federal Council members from 2024 onwards for more than 4,000 francs, Switzerland knows that the Federal Council loves the mountains.
But since the workload of the state government is very high, they have now brought the mountains to the federal parliament. For the latest photo of the Federal Council, they chose a canvas with a darker mountain motif, for which she walks dynamically towards the viewer.
The photo was taken by photographer Sina Guntern in the Bundeshaus East; on the right you see the security gate.
The shady Alps and the security gate are a reminder of the dangers that lurk in life and in the mountains.
The state government apparently expects difficult times and difficult roads in 2024 as well. The government also shows with its neat clothing and school choices: mountains can only be moved outside the office. And there is no time for walks, the committee marches so vigorously.
However, the state government around the Valais centrist politician and new Federal President Viola Amherd (61) walks through the entrance hall of the East Federal Palace in a very good mood. They don’t seem too sad that they won’t be able to use the new GA for mountain railways very often.
Or are the Federal Council members so happy that in an emergency they would find safety in a Federal Council bunker in the mountains? As Minister of Defense, Amherd would show her colleagues the way there.
Apparently the seven federal council members and the new Chancellor Viktor Rossi (55) could not or did not have to agree on a mountain area for which they wanted to be photographed.
Amherd not only brought her home country Valais to the Federal Palace. But a potpourri of the local mountains: the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are right next to the Säntis, but the Dents du Midi and of course the Matterhorn can also be found in the panorama. There is also room for the Chasseral, the San Salvatore and the Säntis. What they all have in common is that they seem dark and even somewhat threatening.
No one in the Federal Council knows better about the dangers lurking in the Alps than the new Federal President. Amherd broke his elbow while hiking in the mountains in July. So maybe it would be better if our government didn’t wander into the dark mountains too often.
The new photo of the Federal Council was printed in an edition of 40,000 copies. You can download and order it at www.admin.ch
