Like every week, on Sunday we offer you a small overview of the Netflix reboots of the coming week. At the beginning of the month it starts with a lot of food purchased, after which some promising originals will follow. The program isn’t quite full yet, but there should still be enough for your watchlist. We have always made a selection for you. Here are the Netflix highlights for the first week of 2024, running from January 1 to 7:
Monday: German cinema
Netflix fans know it. The very first day of the month means: Newly purchased licensed titles hit the streaming platform on a larger scale. The same goes for January. This time the focus seems to be on German films. Because from Monday there will be several available to stream – from modern classics such as “Lola runs“ about the sights that are worth seeing “Sophie Scholl – The last days“ up to the still quite current one “The perfect secret“.
A new Netflix series will also start at the beginning of this year: “In eternal guilt“ is about a woman who has lived in fear since her husband was brutally murdered. The house has been monitored by cameras ever since. She is therefore surprised when, after a burglary, she immediately recognizes the perpetrator on the surveillance images: it is her husband, whom she thought was dead. He is played by “The Hobbit” star Richard Armitage, by the way.
Tuesday: Marvel really weird
Netflix has another purchased licensed title available on Tuesday. In “Morbius“ Jared Leto plays a scientist who suffers from a rare blood disorder and turns into a vampire while searching for a cure. For many, including the author of these lines, “Morbius” is one of the weakest Marvel films in recent memory. But you can’t deny him one thing: he’s also one of the weirdest Marvel actors. So if you haven’t wanted to spend money until now because you risk being disappointed, you can now take a look at Netflix.
Wednesday: A break
Netflix has not yet announced any promising new releases for Wednesday.
Thursday: The highlight day!
Two top-tier exclusive titles are coming from the streaming service on Thursday. “The Sun brothers“ is a new series from ‘American Horror Story’ author Brad Falchuk, which seems to combine a lot of action and strange humor and also stars Michelle Yeoh. The focus is on a slacker who suddenly discovers that his family runs a criminal empire. Together with his brother and his mother, who reveal surprising skills, he must fend off competitors.
After “The snow company“ was in theaters for a short time, the drama from ‘Jurassic World 2’ director JA Bayona is available on the streaming service from Thursday. The Netflix Oscar candidate tells the true story, which has been filmed several times, of a rugby team whose plane crashes in the Andes in 1972. In the icy cold and in the deepest snow, any chance of a quick rescue quickly disappears. When the little food tends to run out, another difficult decision must be made.
Friday: Not a dry eye in the house
“Good Grief” is another Netflix original film and premieres Friday. The directorial debut of ‘Sex Education’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek’ star Dan Levy could make for a moving movie evening, with no dry eyes at the end. At least that’s what the trailer of the drama about a man (Levy himself) who mourns the love of his life (Luke Evans) and goes to Paris with his best friends (Ruth Negga, Himesh Patel) suggests:
Saturday and Sunday: not much going on
However, Netflix has not yet announced any promising new titles for the entire weekend. It’s time to fill in the viewing list or of course go to the cinema. Finally, the anime highlight “The Boy and the Heron” and Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” are shown:
