Self-doping should be punishable in the future: the Federal Council wants to tackle doping offenders

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 fmXrkB”>

Those who use doping will have to fear more than just a ban in the future.

The Federal Council wants athletes who use doping to be criminally prosecuted. He wants to adjust the penal provisions in the Sports Promotion Act accordingly. Nowadays, anyone who dopes themselves only risks sanctions such as a ban.

Four years ago, St. Gallen FDP councilor Marcel Dobler (43) called for a tougher approach to doping offenders. The Federal Council also saw the need for action. It cannot be the case that it is forbidden to baptize others, but self-doping is not prosecuted, the government says in a report. Foreign doping has been punishable in Switzerland since 2000. In all surrounding countries of Switzerland, no distinction is made as to whether you or others have used doping.

The Federal Council wants to expand sports financing

The Federal Council wants to address the tightening of doping policy as part of the further development of sports financing. He plans further measures in this area. For example, it should be investigated whether the federal government can contribute to the construction of new, innovative facilities for popular sports through investment contributions. The Federal Council also makes clear whether, in addition to construction, the operation of sports facilities of national importance should be supported. Instead of a national snow sports center, he has three to four decentralized winter sports centers in mind. In this way, the federal government should be able to provide additional support to snow sports camps.

The federal government also wants to further develop the Youth+Sport (J+S) financing program so that it reaches even more children and young people. The Federal Council is considering lowering the age limit from 5 to 4 years and opening the program to sports providers outside traditional sports or youth clubs. He also wants to clarify whether federal financing is possible not only for one-off, but also for recurring major sporting events.

The department of Sports Minister Viola Amherd now has two years to further develop the plan. (SDA/lha)
