Erik Arvidsson is unlucky before the start of the season.

At the beginning of March, Erik Arvidsson (27) achieved the best Super-G result of his career in his home country. In Aspen, the American speed specialist finished 14th. Before that, he had only been better classified once. Eighth in the descent of Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Ö) 2021.

Arvidsson will not be able to build on these results for the time being. Because this time the local snow didn’t bring him any luck. As he announced on Instagram, his season is over before he even competes in the first race. “I’m going to miss these guys so much this year,” he wrote next to a photo of him with his teammates. “It breaks my heart that I tore my cruciate ligament and lateral ligament on the last day of training before the start of the World Cup season.”

“Not the first and not the last”

It happened at Copper Mountain. On a training trip, Arvidsson’s demise is a crossover. He can no longer prevent a serious fall and sustains a serious knee injury. Even before he begins his rehabilitation, Arvidsson thanks the doctors, physiotherapists, trainers, athletes and supervisors of the American team “who helped me prepare for the long road back.”

Arvidsson also received encouragement from a competitor. “As Aleksander Aamodt Kilde told me: I am not the first and will not be the last,” the American writes. And emphasizes: “I will be back soon.” Many other athletes are also convinced of this. The post includes well wishes from not only Kilde, but also from his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin, Nina O’Brien, AJ Ginnis and Tommy Ford.

Arvidsson has competed in 34 World Cup races so far and finished in the points six times. He celebrated his greatest success with the juniors. There he became world champion downhill in 2016. (beer)
