No free election campaign: SVP rejects debate on urgent asylum application

SVP has to wait until December

The number of asylum seekers is increasing

It was only a month ago that parliament and Asylum Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59) had to attend a special session on asylum at the request of the SVP. Nothing tangible emerged from this – except the opportunity for the SVP to draw attention to the number 1 issue in the election campaign.

In November, the SVP will compete for seats in the Council of States in the second round of voting in various cantons. It is obvious that the SVP wants to hold the renewed asylum debate before these votes.

The SVP obviously argues differently. Mainly due to the new asylum practice among Afghan women, the number of asylum applications has increased by a third in the past month. Given this development, time is of the essence, the party said.

The liberals have also protested against the new asylum practice. Unlike the SVP, the discussion is not that urgent.
