The FDP is currently causing a stir with its election posters. Just last week, an official campaign poster, made with the help of artificial intelligence, caused misunderstanding inside and outside the party. Now the candidate of the National Council of the FDP – and father of the “No-Billag” initiative – Yves Collet (35) is pictured in controversial clothing on the election poster.

VBS responds via Twitter

“The right choice for safety” is the slogan on the Collet poster. To underline this with a little more credibility, the auditor poses in army uniform.

Whether and when a person is allowed to wear the uniform of the Swiss army is clearly regulated. In its tweet, the Federal Public Service Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) refers to Article 96 of the Service Regulations and Article 21 of the Ordinance on the Personal Equipment of Army Members (VPAA). “The army and its members – if they wear a uniform – must behave in a politically neutral manner,” the DDPS said via Twitter.

Ameti already in camouflage suit

A few weeks ago, the case of Sanija Ameti (31), co-chair of Operation Libero, made headlines due to a similar incident. She wore an official army uniform at a neutrality event in Bern. You are now threatened with a fine for “unauthorized wearing” of a uniform.

The canton is responsible

The DDPS responded via Twitter. But actually the Federal Office is not responsible at all. “The incident took place outside office hours. That is why the canton is responsible for minor cases of non-compliance with service regulations,” a spokesman for the DDPS told Blick.

It remains unclear whether Collet’s case will continue. That must be decided by the responsible cantonal office for army and civil protection.
