“Pedro Ruiz figured out what would happen if Kennedy married Marilyn”

Its creator Pedro Ruiz starts from the following premise narrated by the main actress Iria Ares: “Pedro creates a charming idea: what would have happened if Kennedy said yes to Marilyn and they got married.” The work opens this Friday in the maritime city at 8:30 p.m., with a special collaboration of the author himself.

Xoán Carlos Mejuto and Iria Ares play a variation of this couple, with different names and in an imaginary land, “but with a clear nod to Hollywood and an attractive president who doesn’t marry a standard woman as first lady.” But this screw ball includes the context of the sexual scandal and thinking about intimacy: “The sexual video of the couple was deliberately leaked to the press, with the intention that the president would lose the next election… Pedro Ruiz thus attacks one of the topics of our century.”

According to actor Xoán Carlos Mejut, “humor is the most intelligent way to deal with criticism.” Iria Ares adds that “Pedro was very skilled in this aspect with a very sour career in which there is something for everyone, but also a special sensitivity”. The tests were carried out between Madrid and Ferrol. And after the premiere in the Galician city, this scandal in the palace he goes to the capital Teatro Lara, “where he will be for fifteen weeks”.

Jofre was chosen for the premiere “because it is an impressive space, here we work with our lighting artist Antón Arias and as a company we feel at home” (it is a production of Estudo Momento with the support of the City Council of the city of Ferol).

As always, the pairings give a lot of play. Mejuto recalls that together with Iria, Ares already made «A doll house by Ibsen, Macbeth, Miss Julia about toxic relationships… and this is our first joint comedy, with two very extreme characters in male and female representation».

Iria replies: “Everyone thinks that, but after the Oscars are for dramas, the truth is that success in comedy is achieved through laughter and that is very demanding for an actor.” Mejuto adds that the absence of laughter can fall very hard: “It’s scary, when you make a joke to provoke laughter and fail, a feeling of coldness comes… but it happened to me several times” [se deshace en carcajadas].
