Artificial intelligence is already changing the way we work and will do more than we can imagine today. New, digital tools should make everyday physical life easier. While many places have reservations and reservations, apps like ChatGTP are probably not going away anytime soon.
Now Snapchat has jumped on the AI train, too. The application, which is especially popular among young people, allows you to send pictures and chat messages to your friends who disappeared again immediately after viewing. Recently, users can also talk to a chatbot called “My AI”.
Based on ChatGTP and answering any questions from Snapchat users, the chatbot can plan a day hike or help you find a gift for your best friend, according to the US company. Users can also give it a name and customize the avatar’s appearance as they wish.
My AI was originally only available to Snapchat+ subscribers. The chatbot is now available for free and also launched in Switzerland in May.
Just like ChatGPT, My AI can write all texts and therefore can be used for homework. The demands are high. A user expressed his disappointment that the chatbot named My AI on Tiktok wrote his lecture but did not simultaneously present the PowerPoint presentation.
There are many skeptical voices on social media. One big point of criticism: You can’t escape My AI anymore. The chatbot always appears at the top of Snapchat messages, even if you never use it. It also cannot be deleted. Only Snapchat+ subscribers can unsubscribe from the bot. In Switzerland, the subscription fee is CHF 2.50 per month.
Many on Twitter and Tiktok wonder what exactly the bot can do. If you send a picture to the bot, it can react to it and apparently see what’s on it. But he denies seeing the pictures if you ask. A lot of questionable answers are floating around besides My AI: An adult journalist for the Washington Post pretended to be 15 years old. The bot is said to have given him tips on how to mask the smell of alcohol and marijuana. The chatbot supposedly advised a 13-year-old boy to have sex with a 31-year-old partner for the first time. Such information is especially worrying for parents.
On its website, Snapchat warns that My AI may contain biased, false, harmful or misleading content. But we are constantly working on it. Snapchat has also created additional security measures.
Snapchat is mainly used by teens, young adults and also kids. For many, the digital world is their reality. “It’s important for young people to learn media skills at an early age,” says Lulzana Musliu, spokesperson for Pro Juventute. The NGO promotes media skills for children and young people as well as for parents.
Young people in particular are very focused on trends and that’s probably why they discovered the new chatbot. “Parents should not always demonize the issue,” Musliu warns. Because technology is completely normal for kids. In addition to dangers, artificial intelligence also presents opportunities. It is best to immerse yourself in this world with the children to find a way to deal with it.
