Bruises on the Dosto dining car

SBB’s new gate train, the Dosto, is known to many passengers as the breakdown and jolt train. Additionally, it smells distinctly around toilets. Now it turns out that the staff is also having trouble with Dosto. First of all, Elvetino employees, who run all SBB dining cars, complain about the working conditions on the train.

The constant jolting and swaying of the train not only bothers the passengers, but the staff working in the dining car regularly bruises: “Compared to train staff, Elvetino staff are particularly exposed when it comes to service,” explains Mario Schmid. railway workers’ association SEV in the “Sunday newspaper”. “There are always minor accidents, staff hits and wounds.”

Some are considering resigning

Because the dining car kitchen is so narrow that employees are always in danger of hitting their heads on the ceiling if they drive wobbly. Complaints such as body aches and headaches, dizziness, nausea and fatigue due to constant shaking were also reported to SEV. “Out of fear, employees are taking sick leave or being fired, making the staff shortage worse.”

The result: Employees want to work less on the shaker train, preferring to work on other dining cars. According to Schmid, a survey conducted by SEV in May revealed that one in five Elvetino employees is considering termination due to working conditions at Dosto.

many failures

But the dining cars in Dosto have even more problems: kitchen appliances and the interior elevator constantly strike the train. With visible consequences for passengers: dining cars are often closed. According to Schmid, “There are more failures for technical reasons, especially in Dosto”. This includes defective kitchen appliances such as a coffee machine, steamer and dishwasher. And a water leak in the kitchen.

While Elvetino boss Daniela Corboz puts the “teething problems” in “Sonntagszeitung” and the shortcomings of Dosto dining cars into perspective, she must admit that too: with other fleets. » This is frustrating for passengers who want to grab something to eat or drink on a relaxing train ride.
