Travelers traveling by train from Germany to Switzerland currently have to change trains more frequently in Basel. The reason for this is that German trains are often delayed and then no longer go to the final station in Switzerland.
“The punctuality of international trains traveling from Germany from the north to Switzerland via Basel has decreased in recent months,” said an SBB spokeswoman for DPA news agency. Most recently, only 40 percent arrived with a maximum delay of five minutes.
“If an ICE arrives more than 10 to 15 minutes late at Basel SBB, it will lose its slot,” the spokeswoman said. Finally, the delay also affects travelers in Switzerland who wanted to use the train between, for example, Basel and Zurich.
That is why the SBB has replaced the delayed train in domestic traffic with its own wagons. The delayed DB train then ends in Basel SBB. Deutsche Bahn admitted problems. “The operational situation in cross-border traffic between Switzerland and Germany is regretted,” said a spokeswoman. (aeg/sda/dpa)
