Pierin Vincenz is far from appearing before the Zurich Supreme Court: the verdict against Raiffeisen’s former boss was overturned due to “serious procedural errors”. (archive image)

The Zurich prosecutor’s office has been in shambles in the Pierin Vincenz case since February 20: On that day, the high court overturned the entire first instance decision against the former Raiffeisen boss.

The high court found that the 356-page indictment contained “serious procedural errors” and was too long, and sent the file back to the prosecutor’s office for reconsideration.

According to the statement made by the prosecutor’s office, MPs from EVP, FDP and SVP are now called to the scene. After the rejection, the prosecutor’s office announced that this accusation was examined by “external experts to be on the safe side.” An expert was hired “for quality assurance.”

What is the basis of external audit?

This approach is quite unusual for parliamentarians, as can be seen from a question sent to the government council on Wednesday. They want to know from the government on what legal basis the prosecutor’s office “externally reviewed” the charges and how often this happened.

They also want to know what this means for the prosecutor’s office if external quality assurance has no legal basis. However, the prosecutor’s office does not want to accept the rejection. He objected to the rejection decision in the Federal Court.

Vincenz case

The Zurich District Court sentenced Vincenz and his four business partners to prison terms, some lasting several years. The people concerned took this decision to the Zurich Supreme Court; The court originally wanted to take up the case in July 2024. This process has now been postponed until further notice.

Advert

The prosecutor’s office accuses them, among other things, of secretly investing in companies and later arranging their acquisition by Raiffeisen Bank, among others. They are said to have made millions in profits. (SDA)
