According to the US coffee chain, the new Starbucks coffee “combines the aroma of braised Dongpo pork with a salty and sweet taste creation.”

Starbucks is known for its creative coffee creations: “Caramelized Macadamia Oat Latte” or “White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino with Golden Caramel.” But now the US coffeehouse chain is getting even better. The company is launching a pork-flavored coffee in China, or as Starbucks calls it, the “Fertile Year Salted Latte.”

The curious new beverage combines “the flavor of roasted Dongpo pork with a salty and sweet taste creation that celebrates the traditional New Year,” which is how Starbucks describes the coffee. The offer is part of a campaign in which the global company is incorporating “local flavors and traditional customs” into its hot drink creations at 25 selected branches in China.

Bacon-Kafi is only available until next Monday – “or while supplies last.” The pork flavored limited-time special edition costs 68 yuan or the equivalent of 8.45 francs.

Pork-flavored coffee is banned in Switzerland

As a Starbucks spokesperson said in response to Blick’s question, no such beverage is currently planned for Switzerland. “Starbucks Switzerland’s offers are primarily aimed at the needs of the Swiss population.” They rely on seasonal innovations. The spokesperson announced that “Spring Blend”, a combination of coffees from Latin America and Asia-Pacific, will be available in the market starting from March 7. “Flavor notes are characterized by honeybush and cocoa.”

The coffeehouse chain has recovered from the Corona low in this country and is focusing on expansion again. Starbucks wants to open up to 30 new branches in Switzerland. There are currently 57 locations.
