Thomas Tuchel will no longer coach Bayern Munich this summer. But who will be his successor?

In the summer it is over between Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel (50). That has been clear since Wednesday morning. The current downturn, which threatens to result in the first titleless season since 2012, is too severe. Bayern boss Jan-Christian Dreesen (56) says that there will be a “sporty reshuffle with a new coach” next season.

For Bayern, the long search for a new coach begins immediately. But who actually qualifies for this popular but demanding position? The great luck: there is no shortage of big – and available – trainer names at the moment. Blick presents a number of candidates who have the right profile based on their CV.

Xabi Alonso (42) – Bayer Leverkusen

The football world’s admiration for the Basque is currently enormous. What he has built up at Bayer Leverkusen over the past sixteen months is incredible. Everything currently indicates that Vizekusen will be renamed Meisterkusen in the summer. Will Alonso then leave the pill club because he thinks nothing is possible anymore? Despite the contract until 2026, this is a realistic scenario. However, it cannot be assumed that he will keep his feet still for the time being. After all, he would have truly launched his coaching career with a title at his number one position and would probably be even hungrier for more. He would be in perfect hands at Bayern, where only titles count. What also works in his favor is that he knows Munich very well from his playing days (2014-2017).

Hansi Flick (58) – without club

There are always spectacular return campaigns in football. Hansi Flick would also join these ranks if he returned to Munich after his failed experience as DFB coach. His successful Bayern history (7 trophies) makes him an obvious option. But at this point, Flick’s return to the Isar would probably come too soon, despite talks with Uli Hoeness (72).

Zinedine Zidane (51) – without club

In Italy, the newspaper ‘Corriere dello Sport’ writes that there was first contact between Zizou and Bayern boss Jan-Christian Dreesen last week. With Zidane, the Munich team would land a big fish. At Real Madrid – his only coaching position – he won the Spanish championship twice and the Champions League three times. So he knows how to deal with absolute top stars. The Frenchman has been without a club for three years. But now he would like to become a coach again. He is said to be flirting with the French national team. But it may still be a long time before Didier Deschamps (55) leaves. An offer from Bayern would be just right.

Antonio Conte (54) – without club

If the southern Italian takes a job in the summer, success is guaranteed. He showed this impressively at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter. Such a profile fits Bayern like a glove. Conte could of course imagine a job in Germany. However, if a top Serie A club comes knocking at the same time, he might prefer to stay in Italy. An additional obstacle for him to commit to Bayern could be the language.

Sebastian Hoeness (41) – Stuttgart

And what if someone from Munich takes over Bayern? Uli Hoeness’s cousin has been working at VfB Stuttgart since April 2023. During this time he turned a relegation candidate into a top team. So the references are excellent. But there’s a catch. Hoeness is under contract in Stuttgart until mid-2025. But if Bayern really want him, it will be extremely difficult for the Swabians to keep him. The only question is whether he is willing to work with as many stars as at Bayern.

Rejection of Jürgen Klopp (56), José Mourinho (63) studies German

The name of the Swabian comes up again and again in connection with Bavaria. Even now it is clear he will leave Liverpool in the summer. He even announced that he would take a break first. But will Klopp change his mind when the big FC Bayern calls? Hardly. Because Klopp’s advisor Marc Kosicke emphasized to Sky: “Jürgen Klopp will not coach a club or national team for a year after the current season. It will remain that way.”

The five candidates presented are certainly not the only names who would be enthusiastic about the job at Bayern. There is also a José Mourinho (63). Apparently the Portuguese are already diligently learning German. However, the question is whether his playing style really suits Munich. What is certain, however, is that the rumor mill about the most sought-after job in the Bundesliga will be red hot in the coming weeks.
