The third reason for the current egg high is the tendency to consume more eggs instead of meat products. The number of vegetarians in Switzerland who prefer to eat eggs, although they do not eat meat, is also increasing.

To avoid shortages, supermarkets will import more eggs from abroad over the next few weeks to meet demand. Migros also announced that not all types of eggs may be available.

Denner lists the fourth cause of egg shortage as possible bird flu in egg laying farms.
