Did Migros disappear here? Just a few weeks ago, Migros Blick confirmed that from now on, shopping invoices will only be printed at supermarket checkouts at the express request of customers. The orange giant wants to do good to the environment by saving 100 tons of paper annually.
But abandoning the standard printout of receipts brings with it problems that the major distributor apparently underestimated. Migros does not operate without invoice everywhere. This applies to branches with automatic cash registers and automatic payment systems with barriers. These can only be opened using the barcode on the printed receipt. And you can only get it from the payment machine on demand.
This causes confusion for customers. Reader reporters talk about the Migros branch in Zurich Kreuzplatz. Apparently, there is an employee there who opens the barriers for customers with a “barcoded key” without printing a receipt. Migroscu said this was “completely bad planning”. Looks like he has to play porter on a regular basis instead of stocking the shelves.
Other branches appear to be taking a more pragmatic approach. According to the reports of many reader correspondents from the Migros branch in Zurich-Albisrieden, the barrier there is completely open. There is no need for a receipt or designated personnel at check-out. However, this makes the purpose of the barrier unnecessary.
As a reminder: Migros implemented barriers a year ago in order to prevent shop theft in its “Brennpunkt branches”, where theft incidents are particularly common. It is currently located in the Zurich sales region, partly in other regions of the Migros Cooperative Union.
There is demand from Migros. Without a receipt, the barrier system doesn’t seem to make much sense. Will it be removed again? The Migros Zurich cooperative says no: “The rotary arms are working and will remain so.” The spokesman said there was “no news” when it came to obstacles.
This leaves customers who, in an environmentally responsible way, opt out of picking up the bill and have to stand in front of locked barriers and need help. Or Migros branches that solve the problem on their own.
No hassle at discounter Lidl. This has been the case for a long time: self-payment cannot be made without a receipt. But the discounter has not yet eliminated the receipts.
