Anyone who has traveled abroad by train and booked with SBB knows that it is not yet possible to reserve a particular seat. Seat reservations are essential for many destinations abroad.
It is not possible to reserve seats facing the direction of travel. For people traveling together, only “nearby” seat reservations are possible through SBB and there is no guarantee. As the “Aargauer Zeitung” writes, this situation may change soon.

SBB does not confirm that definitive seat reservations will occur as early as 2024. But it is “one of the top priorities.” There will be other innovations for next year. Until now, you had to go to SBB’s website for international tickets. According to a spokesperson, “all relevant tickets” for trips to neighboring countries are available there. But the change does not only bring positive things: from 2024 you will no longer be able to book tickets from SBB for trains in Spain, Great Britain, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Poland and other Eastern countries.
