These child seats are particularly safe

As every year, the General German Automobile Club (ADAC) examines the best and safest child seats of the year. One seat is even said to be carcinogenic.

In the 2023 ADAC child seat test, 20 different models in different sizes and for different age groups had to prove themselves.

The result: ADAC advises against one seat, eleven seats received the verdict “good” and eight received a “sufficient”. All seats rated “good” and “sufficient” exceed legal requirements – in some cases significantly.

However, it is important to note that there are different models in different sizes and for different age groups. These are the test winners:

There are two winners in the “good” category: der «Cybex solution G i-Fix» and the “Joie i-Snug 2 + Base Advance”.

The Cybex solution G i-Fix is ideal for children between 4 and 12 years. It has an additional attachment option on the Isofix anchorages. According to ADAC, this increases lateral sensitivity and prevents the seat from tipping over when cornering. The only drawback: need more space.

Baby car seats are very practical for babies up to 1 year old, as the baby can be transported directly from the apartment into the car with the car seat. The cut is particularly good here Joie i-Snug 2 + i-Base Advance away. According to the ADAC, this shell is a light and very safe baby shell with no frills.

From buying the «Secure iZi Twist M» advises against ADAC.

It is the only chair that failed the series of tests because naphthalene was found in the upholstery of the seat shell. Naphthalene is suspected to be carcinogenic.

ADAC tests child seats in frontal collisions at 64 km/h and in side-impact collisions at 50 km/h. The tests are well above the legal minimum requirements of the child seat testing standard. The load values were tested for each child seat model with different sizes of pacifiers in the sitting and resting position.

In Switzerland there are rules for the use of child seats in cars. For example, children up to 12 years old or up to 150 cm in height must travel in an appropriate restraint system (child seat), as the Federal Roads Office writes. The type of car seat depends on the age and weight of the child:

Compliance with child seat regulations is a legal requirement in Switzerland and serves to ensure the safety of children while driving. Fines may be imposed if the rules are not followed.
