Nina Leuenberger, 22, with her two cats, was born in St. He moved to his new home in St. Gallen. She lives with Jana Eugster (21) and Robin Lohnke (24) in a four bedroom flat for CHF 1,780 including additional costs she. Leuenberger paid 500 francs for his room. The straight-sharing trio grew up at Arbon TG and only loosely communicated via social media. “This is how Robin and I realized that Jana was looking for a roommate to share a new flat,” says Leuenberger.

His two cats, Pablo and Bonnie, were one of the reasons Leuenberger noticed his first two-room apartment and decided to share it. «My place of work is in Zurich and I travel for business for a long time and often. That’s why my cats are often left alone for long periods of time,” she says. It’s not just Leuenberger’s cats that are making more friends in the new flat, he’s also. He no longer has to do the housework alone, instead sharing it with his roommates Robin and Jana. “Now that I pay less rent, I can save more money and have more money for my hobby travel,” says Leuenberger happily.

Hassle-free apartment search

In September, the trio started looking for an apartment. According to the young journalist, St. There is still not much to notice about the housing shortage prevailing in St. “Shortly after we set our housing criteria and budget, we were able to see and apply for two apartments.” Leuenberger and his friends who share the flat have already made a commitment to the second flat. «I was immediately impressed by the magnificent view of the city, the proximity to the train station, the high ceilings and the charm of the modern apartment in the Art Nouveau building!»

The apartment has a small side garden and a shared terrace. “It was important for us to have an outdoor space so we could spend the summer outside and celebrate a party. Also, my cats can go outside,” says Leuenberger.

Kitchen as a favorite place

All floors of the large old building are wooden except for the kitchen and bathroom. The entrance area of the apartment on the ground floor is large and has built-in wardrobes. There is also a pantry room. “It’s not pretty, but it’s practical,” says Leuenberger. Single bathroom is small. “It’s okay. We get along well in terms of time,” he says.

One of her favorite places is the spacious kitchen with the dining area. Leuenberger serves coffee here when Blick visits and tells her life story. Cooking is done on a gas stove. «I love to cook and I love to cook with this stove.» The trio inherited an old kitchen dresser and shelves from the previous tenant. This is where the food that everyone buys but shares with each other is stored.

Living room with bay window and view

The smallest bedroom is the corner room chosen by Jana Eugster. But it has windows on both sides and therefore light. Adjacent to Eugster’s room, which has an unused connecting door, is the bright living room with an old tile stove and bay window. The view of the city from here is particularly beautiful.

The comfortable corduroy sofa was designed accordingly and invites you to linger. “We held a little housewarming party here with raclette and friends on New Year’s Eve,” says Leuenberger. Another door leading from the living room to Robin Lohnke’s adjoining room was cleverly concealed. “Jana’s father made us a handmade shelf especially for this.”

Adjacent to the kitchen is Leuenberger’s own kingdom, which he can pull out if needed. «The view is less beautiful, but for me it was more important to have enough space. I have my own TV next to my bed and my desk. What more do you want?” he said with a smile.

Real live examples in a new series

In a new loose living series, Blick wants to show as authentically as possible how people of all ages live in the very different parts of Switzerland. With these living stories, it doesn’t matter whether one lives in one’s own house or in a rented apartment. Especially since around two-thirds of the Swiss population rent their homes and cannot or do not want to own their own. Newly moved Blick editor Nina Leuenberger spontaneously launched this new Blick living room series.
