Is the BBC now fighting back in the Lineker case?

class=”sc-97fd9fa8-0 jNFKxv”>

Gary Lineker (right) is at the center of a heated debate in England.

Hardly anyone imagined that ‘match of the day’ could become a political issue in Britain in a matter of days. But that’s exactly what happened to football’s most famous show.

“BBC” sentenced star presenter and football icon Gary Lineker to a break because of a Nazi comparison under pressure from many politicians. A decision with consequences: The criticism of this decision was immense on the island.

BBC seeks “solution”

Experts such as Ian Wright and Alan Shearer decided not to participate in the studio show in solidarity with their colleagues. Last but not least, Saturday’s Premier League games also saw calls for a backward role in the Lineker case. Many supporters held up signs in stadiums to vent their anger. “Lineker for Prime Minister!” even insisted.

After the immense criticism, the BBC would now like to crawl back. Director-General Tim Davie said in an interview with the BBC on Saturday evening that the broadcaster was ready to discuss Gary Lineker’s return. However, new conditions would first have to be created for this to happen.

Bad Saturday program

Davie – himself a former member of the Conservative Party – admitted in the interview that he acted partisan under pressure from the government. He is working on a solution to bring the star presenter back to the highlights show.

That should please the hot-blooded English fans. Yesterday’s “Match of the Day” broadcast — without Lineker and his fellow pundits — came in a 20-minute package with no moderators, commentary, or expert analysis. (par)
