Michael Hirst is probably known to most people interested in historical series and films – especially as the creator of the successful Viking series ‘Vikings’. Hirst’s credits include “The Tudors”, “Camelot” and the script for the films “Elizabeth” and “Elizabeth – The Golden Kingdom”. And now Hirst strikes again – and he has the ‘Civil Blood’ series in the works.
The production company Caryn Mandabach Productions (CMP) brings even more historical experience. She was also responsible for the series hit ‘Peaky blinders“, which not only impressed with an exciting story, but also with the ultra-cool appearance of the gang around Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy).
Not only Michael Hirst is already on board for ‘Civil Blood’
“Civil Blood” is loud is already quite far into development, so it won’t be long before we get casting reports on the series. ‘Civil Blood’ is set in 17th century England and is about the adventures of a young woman growing up in times of war. According to the official description, the series will be a “mix of a coming-of-age story, high-risk action and world-changing ideas.”
In addition to Michael Hirst, other personal data have already been identified, including: Cat Clarke, who is co-writing the screenplay with Hirst and developed the idea for the series together with him and Dario Poloni (“Black Death”). So far, Clarke’s credits include contributing the script to an episode of Amazon’s fantasy hit “Good Omens.”
And that’s not all: there is already a director on board, which means that the realization of ‘Civil Blood’ will not take long. Jonathan Entwistle will perform, To date, his resume includes the landmark series “Fairn of the Vanities” and the Netflix productions “The End Of The F***ing World” and “I Am Not Okay With This” and he has other prestigious projects under his belt list, including a new ‘Power Rangers’ film and, already in a much more concrete development phase, the new ‘Karate Kid’, which will be released in cinemas on December 12, 2024.
“Civil Blood”: historical action from a completely new perspective
Entwistle has also already expressed his impressions of the “Civil Blood” script: “The script has history, heart, family and war – all held together by a punk attitude.” The aforementioned punk attitude really brings back memories of the coolness of ‘Peaky Blinders’, but this time in a period in history that is much further in the past: ‘This is a historical period that is not often explored, and certainly not out now on “This perspective,” Entwistle continued about the series.
