“It is up for discussion who goes to the European Championships, what is best for the European Championships.” These words come from Nati director Pierluigi Tami (62). He said it after the Swiss national team with Murat Yakin (49) on the sidelines lost 1-0 in Romania, clearly missing out on the group win in qualifying.
Now, a week after the defeat in Bucharest, it is clear: Yakin will remain head coach of the Swiss national team until the 2024 European Championship in Germany. The SFV announced this on Tuesday afternoon.
Tami, the man who publicly counted Yakin, is also quoted in the association’s communiqué: “Murat showed us with concrete solutions how he wants to help the team and staff move forward. He has convinced us that he is still the right man for the position of national coach.” (Yes)
