Visit to mountain hideaway La Val: How to have the perfect weekend

In about two hours’ drive from Zurich, after a few steep bends, you reach the idyllic village of Brigels GR. There are not many residents here. But there is enough space and fresh air; which offers a perfect change from busy city life.

Couples or good friends will find the perfect place to spend a relaxing weekend here. Or in my case: a relaxed, well-deserved weekend with my mom. At the first coffee party of the day, I said to my mother: “I don’t remember the last time I was in a place this quiet and quiet.” Because everyone living in the city has almost forgotten the sounds of birds chirping in the mornings and the sound of rattles in the afternoons.

Hotel

Mountain hideaway La Val offers a wide variety of rooms. From the classic deluxe room or junior suite for two to the two-story master suite for six.

The hotel is divided into two buildings: the main building, with reception, spa and restaurant, and a selection of small rooms, and the guest house, with suites and rooms with direct access to the garden. But if you’re worried that your beautiful evening clothes might get wet or dirty as you walk back and forth, don’t worry: the underground tunnel between buildings ensures the shoes are dry and the hairstyle still fits.

Fly: Dogs are accepted at the hotel. There are even containers with towels at the entrances so that your four-legged friends can dry off briefly after a walk or hike. Since Brigels GR is a village where fireworks are prohibited, holidays such as New Year’s Eve or August 1st are ideal to protect animals from noise and bumps.

Food

However, it is not just the environment that soothes the soul, it is also the good food served in a good mood. The choice at breakfast is large. And what I especially like: The products are local. Eggs from the farm and a wide range of sausages, cheeses and fruit are available.

The evening menu does not disappoint in any way either. Traditional Graubunden dishes such as capun and pizokel meet modern cuisine here. There’s even a full vegan menu on the menu if you prefer a plant-based diet. So no one has to go on a best friends trip with nothing.

Fly: If your stomach starts to growl in the afternoon, you will find many flavors in the daily menu. Tarte flambée is especially recommended.

wellness area

The spa area includes an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, as well as various saunas and steam showers. But massages are also very hands-on, and if you prefer to enhance your look, you can complement your manicure and pedicure with a facial.

Fly: It is best to book treatments the day before or early in the morning to ensure you can reserve a spot for the beautician or masseur.

Environment

Brigels is located at an altitude of 1289 meters above sea level. You get the best sunlight here due to its high location and very flat plateau. The region is ideal for both summer and winter. Hiking trails with breathtaking views and a swimming lake provide the perfect setting for the warmer months. Of course, there’s also a golf course and several mountain bike routes. But even in the cold season you can find everything you need here. There are approximately 40 kilometers of ski slopes in the region.
