In ‘Harry Potter’, if you press pause after 90 minutes and 12 seconds, the magic is gone in an instant

Unfortunately, there is no magic spell to prevent film mistakes – otherwise the director would have had one Chris Columbus definitely used, when he tackled the first two Harry Potter films. Of course, it’s not just avid Hogwarts fans who have compared every little detail of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and its sequels to Joanne K. Rowling’s book. Some film fans also practiced their favorite sport and searched the fantasy series down to the last corner for moments when the filmmakers and crew must have slept – of course they found them!

Not only are there seemingly magical events, like in Part 5, that are not explained in either the books or the movies (keyword: T-shirt!), there are also moments that destroy the magic in an instant. , once you discover them. In the first film, the makers made a particularly serious mistakewhich you find after about an hour and a half – in the scene where Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) rushes back to the so-called Nerhegeb mirror, which shows not a normal reflection, but what the viewer most desires.

In Harry’s case, that of course means that he is with his parents James and Lily, who were murdered by the evil black magician Voldemort. After first discovering the Nerhegeb Mirror at night, he immediately runs to the Gryffindor dorms to tell his friend Ron about the magic mirror’s abilities. He immediately wants to see it with his own eyes – so the two of them sneak back to the top floor, hidden under an invisibility cloak.

Although a British startup claimed last year that they were actually working on an invisibility cloak, the movies still had to be fooled: That required a cloak that looked like a normal wizard’s cloak on the outside and had a green lining on the inside. When Harry turns the cloak, we get the illusion of invisibility using green screen technology – but ideally, of course, we shouldn’t see the green color.

But that’s exactly what happens after an hour, 30 minutes and 12 seconds: Harry throws the cloak on the floor – and as he runs through the door, we briefly see the greenery inside in the background. You can see a photo of the scene here:

Once you discover this detail, the magic is gone – at least until the next special effect. Fortunately, the best-selling adaptations have brought the magical world of Hogwarts to life so convincingly that the glitch is quickly forgotten.
