In the Netflix series ‘Lupine’, Omar Sy embodies the villain Assane Diop, who follows the tradition of the literary master thief Arsène Lupine. Like his role model, Assane is not necessarily interested in money; instead, he facilitates the wealth of the rich and powerful with style and elegance. This not only leads to a lot of tension, but also to private conflicts that Assane is still dealing with in the third season, which finally started on Netflix this week.
Fans of “Lupine” had to wait two and a half years for the third season. Damn long, especially since the series hit Netflix and fans couldn’t get enough of thieves Assane Diop. But why did it take so long for new episodes to come out? One reason can be pinpointed in February 2022, when real robbers stormed the set of “Lupin”…
Material worth 300,000 euros was stolen
At the end of February, the filming of ‘Lupine’ took place in the infamous Nanterre, a suburb west of Paris. In the middle of the filming process, a spectacular attack took place: a group of masked people shot fireworks at the cast and crew and managed to steal material and equipment worth almost 300,000 euros. The team around actor Omar Sy remained unscathed and escaped the horror again. Filming had to be interrupted for a few days.
The attackers were young people between 13 and 21 years old. The French police quickly started an investigation. The perpetrators, most of whom were known to the police, were charged with armed robbery and receiving stolen goods. During the first searches, some of the stolen film equipment was recovered. It’s quite ironic that a series that focuses on a master thief is surprised by a heist himself.
You can now stream all seven episodes of ‘Lupine’ season 3 on Netflix.
